MultiSafepay Integrates With Antom by Ant International

MultiSafepay, a Dutch payment service provider focusing on small to medium-sized businesses and marketplaces, has become a subsidiary of Ant International, integrating with Antom global merchant payment services (Antom), operating under Ant’s corporate umbrella.

MultiSafepay offers merchants omnichannel payment services and over 40 international payment methods, including cards, e-wallets, Buy-Now, Pay-Laters, and internet banking.

Antom supports merchants in over 40 markets, enabling them to accept payments in over 100 currencies. In addition to payment options, Antom provides a suite of marketing and digitalization services for local and regional businesses.

With the new strategic partnership, MultiSafepay will leverage Antom’s tech stack and digital capabilities to expand its regional product offerings and SME merchant coverage. For Ant International, this addition is a way to extend its reach and remit in the European payments sector.

The first media reports on the Chinese financial services giant’s nearing acquisition of MultiSafepay date back to January 2024. The deal was reported to be worth about US$200 million. The latest acquisition is part of the group’s efforts to expand into Western markets.

Ant Group’s previous notable purchases in the payments space include Singapore-based payments firm 2C2P in 2022 and ?British payments group WorldFirst in 2019.

Ant Group’s current strategy is to strengthen its global presence and expand the range of available payment services. In 2023, Ant launched the international all-in-one version of its Alipay app, catering to overseas travellers visiting China.

This May, the Group partnered with the Ministry of Investment of Saudi Arabia to be able to expand its e-commerce and digital payment services across the Middle East. Ant International also unveiled a new bettr digital lending platform to make financing simpler and more accessible for micro and small businesses (MSMEs) in select markets.
