More and more European consumers are buying fresh food products online
According to Ecommerce News, 42% of British consumers would rather buy online, compared to 32% of those who prefer in-store shopping.
Amcor surveyed 1,000 online grocery shoppers in the UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden before the pandemic. In Europe alone, the online grocery market is expected to grow by 66% over 3 years. It is also expected that 70% of consumers will do their grocery shopping online by 2024.
The report also found that 6 out of 10 Europeans like to test fresh produce before buying it. This desire is particularly strong among 78% of French shoppers. At the same time, 77% of Germans like to buy produce from stores daily to avoid food waste.
Amcor also found that food subscriptions are gaining more popularity across Europe. Especially in the Netherlands, where Dutch shoppers subscribe to fruit, vegetables, and coffee (36%), and snacks (34%).
Meanwhile, 26% of respondents in the UK, Sweden, and the Netherlands have used a meal kit subscription.
