Dutch online supermarket to utilize robotics

According to Ecommerce News, Dutch online supermarket Picnic has raised €250 million in a new investment round. It wants to use the money to create a robotized distribution center of 42,000 square meters.

The Dutch bank ABN Amro gave Picnic a new loan, along with the investors that are the existing shareholders. The millions of euros will be spent to develop a logistics center, equipped with over a 100 fully automated sorting, packing, and distribution machines.

We use this funding to develop the most sustainable infrastructure for home delivery and to hire the best people from the tech industry. Together with our electric cars, the robotic distribution center in Utrecht forms the basis of our growth strategy and also provides a thousand jobs

The new distribution center will have room for 200,000 boxes, which will be used to store the fast-moving consumer products. Overall, 150,000 households in the Netherlands can be served by the new center every week.
