Instagram will soon allow its users in the US, UK, and Ireland to raise money for a personal cause, their small businesses, or close ones.

The report states that since January, people have raised over $100 million for COVID-19 fundraisers globally across Instagram and Facebook. And during the last month, donations on Instagram have doubled in the US.

The company has also seen a large wave of digital activism responding to the global conversation around racial justice. That’s about people raising money to buy medical equipment for Black Lives Matter protesters. They also aim to rebuild black-owned small businesses affected by COVID-19 and fund educational resources related to racial justice.

All fundraisers go through a review process to make sure they are for eligible causes. Once approved, they can start raising money. Each fundraiser lasts 1 month and can be extended more than once for 30 more days.

We’ve reported that Facebook has announced the rollout of Shops, a new platform allowing businesses to launch free stores on Facebook and Instagram. According to a statement, a new solution will be backed by Facebook’s partners including Shopify, WooCommerce, and BigCommerce.
